Question

Cheap smartphone to travel, use for music/skype/maps

Sep 29, 2013 8:56PM PDT

Hey all. Ive been hitchiking around Europe for just over a year now, with a blackberry playbook for computing and... What i think is a 1st gen zune for music. I have an old nokia somewhere in my pack but its locked to tesco UK.

My zune is on its last days (its lasted so bloody long), and my playbook cant use skype or host an external HD or upload my camera photos.

Im looking to maybe try and sell the playbook for a nexus 7 maybe around christmas (cheaper then, huh?)
But im here about smart phones.

Looking at the cost of a dedicated mp3 player, it seems like a smartphone could be cheaper and have more uses (gps/skype/netbrowsing, etc). I dont need anything new, something around $50 or under would be great, with an micro card slot, ability to host an external hd (can do that on many if you root them i think?), and with a decent music player... I dont really need the actual phone capability, but it would be nice to be able to throw in a payasyougo sim when in need.

Any ideas? On cnets deal page i see some nice looking phones for my price range, but they are only deals for the US unfortunately.

Is my idea unrealistic? Hell, even my actual camera is becoming outdated so maybe a decent smartphone camera would downsize what im carrying even more.

I hope that all made sense. Hope to hear back. Thanks all.

If it makes a difference, im hanging out in greece at the moment.

There is nothing new I see at this price so it appears you'll have to check used and ebay for such a thing. And as such would come and go there is no way to specify what you may find. However you know what you want and your price so for now, all you can do is keep shopping.

Those are likely U.S. carrier subsidized prices

What you are looking at will cost more, amigo. The more features you need, the more you be spending. Sorry.
