Your common NiMH battery and other types are good for about 300 cycles or 18 months. Since the new battery has failed or is incompatible your choices are few but to replace it with a maker's model or just get a new mouse.

I have a Microsoft Explorer Blue Track wireless mouse. The original battery has lasted for over a year. When a slow blinking red light comes on, it's time to charge. Single charges have lasted about 2 weeks.
I put a new good rechargeable battery in, and it's been working fine for about 2 months. Now when I try to charge it, a slow blinking green light comes on - indicating that it's charging. After about a minute, a fast blinking red light will come on. I cleaned the contacts on the battery, the charger and the mouse. it still happens. Any ideas?
