'Charge batteries' dilemma with the Canon Powershot S5 IS

I have had the Powershot S5 IR for less than a year but within the last week it has been taking one photo and then shutting down with a "change batteries" admonition. I have changed the batteries, recharged the batteries, bought new regular alkaline batteries - but it still does this every time I take one photo. Does anyone know, is my camera broken?

If it also fails with regular Alkaline AA batteries, it is time to contact Canon.

As Bob said, use your warranty.

Telephone the Canon Service number and explain your problem.

I was afraid of that . . .

Thanks for the responses. Hmm. I'm in Ukraine right now. My receipt is in California and . . . rats. This may mean I will have to buy another camera here.

One thing to try before sending in the camera

Get a pencil with an erase and "erase" the contacts (both sides) on the battery compartment. Dirt, grime, grit can affect the contacts.

(Oh, and listen to "Indecent Exposure" as that is where I got this tip from. Happy
