Channel change delay

Nov 25, 2008 10:32PM PST

I just bought the LN40A550, after previously only having tube TV's.
So I don't know if my issue is just part of the new generation of flat panel technology, or if I am having a problem,
but when I punch in channel numbers, it take maybe three or four seconds before the channel changes. When I use the up or down buttons to change channels, things are a little faster, but this all seems pretty pokey to me.

Do I have a problem, or is just something I have to accept with the "new technology"?

Digital slower than analog
Nov 26, 2008 2:48PM PST

jerryhacm,

The tuner's response time is a little slower in regards to digital signals. The response time between channels is the television figuring out the incoming signal's resolution and tuning into that. Analog televisions, like your older television, accepted the same signal and resolution every time, and therefore, requires less processing time to dial into the signal.

Hope that helps.

Digital slower

What is the explanation for the time between consecutive channels (using the up channel and down channel buttons) being much quicker than the time between channels using the number buttons?

Jerryhacm,

I'm sorry, but I don't have an explanation.
