chaning partition size on "c" drive

Feb 22, 2004 1:02PM PST

I am running WinXP professional. My HD is 80 GB and I established a 10 GB partion for the OS. I would like to change it to 20 GB.

I have explored the XP utility Diskpart and it will let me change everything except the C drive, where the system is located.

I even cloned the entire C drive to a new partion (H) and set it as active. When I rebooted, I was running was running out of the H drive, but the C drive was flaged as "page file" and DiskPart would still not let me change the C allcation.

Is there a way of doing what I want, short of reinstalling everything?

I believe Partition Magic will do this, but I really don't want to spend $70 bucks.

Thanks

I would put the OS back on C:
Backup all your data.

Partition Magic 7 or newer will do this.
It will resize the partitions.
But backup to be safe.

Did you try manually setting the location of the page file to the cloned H drive?

Your best bet is Partition Magic! The reason is that it is SAFE. It is designed to do just what you want to do. The poiint is that if you try to save the 70, you might have to pay a lot more if you "goof". I have used PM for may years and find that in the long run, the safe way usually winds up to be the "cheepest" in the long run.

Be smart and get PartitionMagic 8.0, you will not regret it, and to make sure of that, go for DriveImage 7.0 while your at it.
