Having done this a few times, the upgrade does work, but the NT 4.0 installs usually have a 2 or 4 GB boot drive which will drive you nuts.
I'd start over. Be sure to update the machine's BIOS before so Windows 2000 can install APM/ACPI proper and you dodge that headache too.
Download the SP4 and MS BLASTER WORM PATCH so you can apply that BEFORE connecting to the internet so you don't have to remove the worms.

I have decided I need to change my OS from NT 4.0 to Windows 2000. My current NT 4.0 has been set up as a server, but I do not want to set up a server with the new OS.
Can I upgrade the NT 4.0 to 2000, or should I do a clean install to avoid potential problems? I do not have a lot of data or programs to worry about, and I have a second internal drive to save what I need.
