Changing name on outgoing mail

Jan 13, 2010 3:30AM PST

I have just switched from a PC to a Macbook and it has 10.6 Snow Leopard. I set up the mail app and I can send and receive email. However, the outgoing mail shows the sender as 'my name (my email address)' and I want to change it to 'My business name (my email address)'. I can find the specs in a properties tab. The 'change mailbox name' is greyed out in the Mailbox drop down box.
Thanks

How do you change the name of a dropdown mailbox ?
Jun 16, 2012 1:55AM PDT

I have several Mac aliases and email addresses (the maximum allowed). Recently someone must have created a contact for me with my company name spelled incorrectly and since I replied to it without seeing the error, it now shows up in my dropdown box of FROM in Mail. I've right-clicked to edit inside the from address line but it doesn't save it and now each time I want to use my business name email, the incorrect one is the one that comes up. Since I am on icloud, the preferences account won't work and the wrong name does not show up in the aliases account either. I hate this and looked everywhere for solutions...any ideas? Thank you!

I'm using Mac OS.X 10.7.3

In Mail, go to the menubar

and select Window/Previous Recipients.

See if the incorrectly spelled name is in there and then delete it.

Not sure how anyone could create a contact for you that would change anything about your outgoing name on an email.
