Question

Changing Laptop Name with a Domain

Aug 9, 2018 3:01PM PDT

Alright, so a couple years ago my dad got a Lenovo Thinkpad from his job. Since then, his job has given him another one and 2 Surface Pros. They asked for the 2nd thinkpad back and he mailed it back to them. He attempted to mail the first one back twice but they have been returned to him both times. He lets me use the laptop freely and I want to change the name on the laptop. It won’t let me because it is connected to a domain and when I try to change the name of the laptop it tells me that the domain does not exist. I don’t want to reset the laptop because we fear the company will see it has been reset. We also fear that if we disconnect it from the domain the laptop will become locked. Any help? Thanks!

No problem.

Just wipe the drive and install the OS of your choice. If W10 or Linux was running there is no cost involved.

Will they see?

We’re scared that they’ll see it get taken off of the domain. Also would they see it get wiped? It is running Windows 7 Enterprise.

That license is only for use

By that company. So it's invalid anyway. PLEASE FOLK. Read the forum policies.

Avoid "Help me jack this car" type posts. We can help but only to get to legit setups.

In your case, if the company has left it to you then the cheap exits are know. Linux for free or some OS of your choice (costs vary.)
