Changing ISP

Jan 28, 2008 11:10PM PST

I want to upgrade to Broadband from Dial-up and as I am finding my ISP unhelpful with an email problem I thought I would take the opportunity to change my ISP. That will mean a new email address and I can advise the people in my address book in due course, but what happens with all the websites that I am registered with? Do I have to choose new passwords and usernames? That would be quite an undertaking.

Websites don't care how you access them. Your browser will save all the favorites and such.

Yes, but.....

for example, with CNET I have to enter my username and password to gain access and with some sites I have to enter my email address and passwod as well as a username. Will I have to find new usernames and passwords for these sites?

Thank you for your reply.

You'll have to inform all your relations about your new email-address (if it's with your current ISP). That includes your private relations (like found in your address book) and all the companies that have your email address in their database, like most e-commerce businesses (like amazon.com and so on) that use your email address to communicate with you.

If you use your email-address to logon, it depends on the site if you can change it, or have to register as a new user. I assume most sites have the option to change an email-address while keeping all your other data. But it depends on their software, so you can't say anything in general.
