The plain fact if you have a bigger than OEM supplied PSU wattage wise, it always helps. Of course, it works better is a qulity type PSU. Alas, it must also be physically be able to fit, etc. to install. I mention that as some unique PSUs are out there and that's a consideration before the purchase. Also, if a larger wattage PSU is installed, it will provide for wider range of GPUs to be gotten from. I wouldn't go crazy putting a super-hot GPU whose demands require yet more cooling ot simply added attention to keep it going. Also, if Dell states that works, that's a "go" to proceed. usually they're conservative in order keep any problems out of the loop. Anything else is on you, so think this all out. Also, being a mini or small factor size PC, they tend to be restrictive to upgrade unless as stated above. You should have not brought this if you were going to up-size the PC from the git.

I have some questions about the 3040 MT. The I-5 6500 version. The 3040 MT lists a PSU of 240 watts. I want to add a gpu.
Dell Social Media Support guy (from the Dell forums) said that the Nvidia GT745 was one of the video cards tested.
Nvidias site lists the GT745 as a 55 watt GPU and a 300 watt PSU requirement for that 745 card. Yet the Dell team found no problems with the GT745. Can you explain this for me?
I want to upgrade but do not want to wreck something by doing so. The gpu card I really want is a GTX 1050 which is a 75 watt card but all other parameters are the same as the 745. Mechanically it will fit perfectly. The only issue is the wattage.
Or maybe is there some listed PSU upgrades available? Or perhaps adapters for aftermarket PSU's? How difficult is it if I wanted to upgrade do a more powerful PSU? Does Dell have that option with this computer?
I spent 32 useless minutes on the phone listening to Dell "tech support" read back my questions to me. If I knew how useless they were I never would have bought this computer.
Can anyone help? Please.
