Changing from Vista to XP on HP dv9500

by straca / September 28, 2007 12:35 AM PDT

I currently have HP dv9000t. Great notebook, love it. My folks 6-year old Toshiba just died and I would like to give them my HP and buy myself Pavilion dv9500t. However I dislike Vista and would like to switch the new 9500 to XP Media Center from my current 9000.

Called HP technical support and they said it can?t be done as I will have many OS issues latter on. Has anybody went back to XP from Vista and how difficult is it? I have the restore disks and the notebooks will be vey similar in configuration except for:

dv9000 - dv95000
7200 - 7300 (Processor)
7600 - 8600 (GC)
1 GB - 2 GB (RAM)
80 GB - 2x120 GB (HDD)
N/A - fingerprint reader

Any suggestions on how to do this? Anybody out there who did this?

Thank you.

P.S. I guess just swapping the HDD is out of question, right?

HP is correct because the support for XP
by orlbuckeye / September 28, 2007 3:21 AM PDT

with the new hardware is not there. The 9000 series uses the series 7 envidia card and the 9500 uses the series 8 card which both need drivers. It's easier to get XP to run on a older system because all the drivers have been out there. This problem will get worse as time passes and not better. So my advice is XP is ok for pre Santa Rosa hardware and Vista for Santa Rosa technology.
