Yes it is a good idea but make sure your computer is able to get Window 7 on your computer. Here go on this link and download the file and it will tell you if your computer is able to use Window 7

And Also this is a good idea to change to Window 7 because Microsoft does not protect Window XP or Window Vista anymore because they have liked moved on to Window 7. I hope this has helped you
Microsoft still supports both Windows XP SP3 and Vista. Windows XP SP3 will be supported till 2014. Whether they ever actually "protected" those operating systems is another question..
As to whether moving from Vista to Win7 is a good idea, that becomes a personal choice based upon the specs of the computer you have and whether the current Vista system is functioning fine.
