Changing from USB to Ethernet modem - connectivity problem

May 12, 2005 3:16AM PDT

My room mate and I are trying to share our new broadband connection but we're having some problems.

My roommate has a desktop Power Mac G4 and I am running a Fujitsu-Siemens AMILO D 1845 laptop.

Originally we took the ISP's USB modem as they incorrectly advised us that we could use any brand of router to share rather than purchase the one they were offering, as we thought we could certainly get one at around half their expensive price. Of course we have since discovered there is no way to share a USB broadband connection.

The USB-ADSL broadband currently works fine on the Power Mac.

We therefore hit on the idea of a combined ethernet modem and router and installed it no problem (because there was no driver to install etc with it being ethernet)

We get "connected" notifications, indicating a connection speed of around 576kbps at present.

However, we get "page not found" "server not found" notifications upon trying to use a browser or email.

Following the installation instructions to the letter, everything is setup to acquire IP/DNS/DHCP automatically.

Anybody know what we're doing wrong?
