Windows EXPLORER may have been set to hide file extensions. Turn that on in Explorer if you want.

Nurse,

If it isn't a .doc, but a .txt or a .rtf, you'd better not rename it to a different extension, or there might be troubles if you (of somebody else) want to open it again. All you can do is "Save As" and choose another file type (i.e. doc if it isn't).

But you can upload any file to a place on the web (somewhere on a webserver). The web is full of pdf-files, gif's (pictures), jpg's (photo's), mp3's (music), css's (style sheets), js-files (javascript), zip-files, not to mention flash and shockwave and java programs.

So, in fact, you didn't succeed in explaining what you want and why you want it.
