Change Windows XP registration name

by dfountain / October 7, 2004 2:44 AM PDT

I recently purchased a new laptop with Windows XP Home Edition. I upgraded it to XP Professional, but the registration name is still the one used when origianlly built. How do I change the registration name to my name?

attached hereby explanation I offered once on the same issue
"Here is my advice:
When you open the "System Properties" window, click the "general" tab. There, you find, against the words "registered to:" the name on whom your PC is registered now.

In order to change the name, as you wish, please follow these steps:

Click the "Advance" button on the "system properties" window, then go down to "User Profiles" & click the "settings" button. That brings you to "User Profiles" Window. There, go down where you find two underlined words in blue, saying:"user accounts". Click on those words & you are being referred to a window named "User Accounts". There, click on the icon beside your name. Now, you are being asked: "What do you want to change about your account?" Underneath you find 5 options, of which the first one is relevant for you :"Change My Name". Now you are just about to reach the last step towards your goal: Click on the first option & there you find the right spot to put the new name for the new owner of the computer. Just add a click on the "Change Name" button & you are done.
Best wishes for success."

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
