Change(s) needed to use Google on Opera browser 7.5

Jun 7, 2004 10:11AM PDT

I have no clue on how to get google to work on Opera's browser 7.5. I had NO problems with the previous version. Using the right-hand box in the address bar to enter my search item and then clicking on Goggle search in the drop down box, I get a Download file box. Obviously, I need to check something in Opera "Preferences". Sometimes, I wonder if it's worth all the time and effort trying to get Opera to does what I/E do effortlessly. Confused

I read a lot of posts about Opera, both on Opera newserver and on their web forum. I've seen no posts about anyone else having this problem. Did you do a clean install of 7.5, or did you upgrade an earlier version? What happens if you type "g yoursearchterm" (without the quotes) directly in the address bar?

No difference. I also get the same results for Google Groups search and Google News search, and I get a blank page response for Ebay.com search and Find in page search. I NEVER had this problem with the previous version of Opera. Do you think I have to check one of the items listed under File Types/Protocols Handled by Opera under "Default applications"?

Example of worded response to a search term entered for www.google.com:

File..........search
Server........www.google.com
Type..........application/octet-stream

Would you like to open or Save the file

By the way, Google searches work fine with I/E. What do you make of this?

Are you using a proxy server of any kind? If so, try it without the proxy an see what happens.
