Change Partition Size

Oct 5, 2007 5:49AM PDT

Just got a new Acer laptop running Vista Home Premium. For whatever reason, the user backup partition D:\ is set to 69.5 GB.
Seems excessive for a 160 GB drive.
Wondering is I could safely shrink the D:\ partition by 40 Gig, and then extend the C:\ partition by 40 Gig.
Seems Vista has the means to do this, but just wondering if it is safe.
By the way, the D:\ partition is empty right now.

1. Partition Magic.
2. Parted.

Sorry but with either one you better have a backup of that system or you may learn why people tell you that.

(NT) I believe #2 should be "GParted"

On the extending front...

Bob brought up the third-party solutions because you cannot natively extend the primary partition, so to complete the task you have to look outside Vista.

Seemed fairly simple at first glance, so glad I checked here first. Will check out partitioning programs.
