Cellphone as landline replacement

Feb 21, 2004 5:29AM PST

Hi. I saw a product announcement a month or so back, and now cannot recall the manufacturer or details. It was a device that would accept your cellphone, and also plugged into your wall socket, thus connecting all your household phones via your wireless provider. The point was you could tell your landline provider to take a hike, and have all your services (mobile and regular house phones) all work seamlessly through your cell number. If anyone recalls details of this gadget, please let me know! Thanks, Pete.

There are 2 devices that allow you to use your current in home phone Lines for your Cell Phone.

There is the CELLDOCK
http://www.celldock.com/
and also the

CellSocket
http://www.cellsocket.com/nokia/index.html
The only problem is that they are not compatable with all Cell Phones.
If anyone knows of a device like those 2, that works with a "LG" cell phone, please let me know ASAP.

Hope this helps

Celldock device to link cellphone to landline
May 21, 2005 11:14AM PDT

Just received my Celldock device today. Took just 5 minutes to connect. Works GREAT! I am in the process of switching my home number to my cell phone and disconnecting my "pots" line. (No more Verizon Bills!)
It currently works with my home line and cell line at the same time.

Now I don't have to run to the other room to get my calls. I have 5 phones in different rooms including a cordless model. Works great on all lines.

I have it connected to a Nokia 6800. It came with four adapters, Seimens, Nokia, Motorola, and Sony Ericcson. Note: Make sure you have the right cell phone as it doesn't work with all phones.

Competitor's devices charge extra for their adapters. Celldock includes four for $99.00.

When I posted my success with the Celldock I still had my wire connected to our POTS line. I physically disconnected the POTS line to avoid Verizon's constant solicitation to renew services. This caused the power to my house lines to cease. I noticed that after there was no power to my house lines that the Celldock did not provide sufficient power to generate the ring for all of my wired phones. It worked well with one phone but the others did not ring. This could be a problem if you have a big house with multiple phones.

If you are using just one phone or can hear the phone from another room then it should be no problem.

Beyond that, Celldock still works fine.
