cell phone help

so i broke my phone and was able to get a phone from a friend, its the same carrier (tmobile) but when i put my sim card in the phone wont turn on, do i have to unlock the phone first?

You don't have to unlock it since you are also using T-mobile. Unlocking is only required if you wanted to use it with At&t. What model phone are you trying to activate ? Not enough information for anyone to help you.

the phone was charged when i got it. it turns on when i take my sim card out but when its in the phone wont turn on at all. im not sure of the exact name of the phone. but its nokia and its a windows phone
