cell phone functions

Dec 4, 2016 9:42AM PST

I just received a ZTE AXON7. I have only had Nexus 5 and 5X phones. Why am I having such difficulty using this new phone? I want to like it, however using android on my nexus phones was very simple It is so challenging on the Axon7. I'm thinking of returning this and paying the extra 150 bucks for the Nexus6P. Can the community offer some suggestions? I've read android authority articles on problems with the phone but nothing is about my issues of basic use of the phone. This is supposed to be a good phone and I am not totally ignorant or stupid in using a smartphone. What seems to be wrong here.

Clarification Request
One of my first moves on such.

Is to factory reset the phone then setup the APN again. It's very important to not install apps while you figure out if the phone does or does not have a problem.

(APN, setup and such is on the web so I rarely write much about that.)

reply to answer from R. Proffitt, thanks

Thank you, R. Proffitt. I took my phone to my carrier Tmobile to have them install my new micro sim card. Surely the sales rep correctly configured the apn settings. She then transferred my data , contacts, pictures etc. from my nexus 5 to the Axon7. I have no issues answering/receiving calls or sending text msgs. I am struggling with features and how to make them display on my screen so I can use them. Nothing works like it does on my nexus phones. Do android features function differently on different makes of phones. Didn't get even a quick start guide with my phone. I am searching online for how to get up to speed quickly but not making much progress so far.

Just adding more about Android.

I've found I have to be very forgiving about what some call Android Fragmentation.

That is all about how one Android is not exactly like the next. Some are very different. I have five Android phones on my work desk (we write apps) and they are all slightly different.

That's the draw and repulsion to Android. Some get upset, others learn to deal with it.
