I read that when I get a new cell phone battery I should fully charge and fully discharge it a few times. But when I charge the battery using the charger supplied with the phone, it apparently shuts down after perhaps six or seven hours, indicating that the battery is fully charged. What I want to know is whether the battery is still getting a charge even though the charging message or light on the phone is no longer there, so that it looks like no charging is taking place. If not, I don't understand what good it does to keep the battery in charge mode after the message or light goes off. Yet, the recommendation to charge it up to 24 hours is commonplace in websites about the care and maintenance of cell phone batteries.
