cell & Laptop for the internet

Hi, I am presently overseas military returning to US (hopefully) and expect to be on the west coast. I have a Compaq laptop Presario 2100. I need to purchase a new cell phone and service when I return. My question is: What service provider and phone and cable should I get that will allow me to hook up with the internet using dial up to go online. And what is the best plan I would thing I need and unlimited type plan as I use the computer several hours a day. Thanks for help.

I use AT&T Wireless for unlimited cell/laptop Internet acces

I'm an AT&T Wireless user and pay $24.99 a month for unlimited service that I connect to using a Sony Ericsson T616 with my Apple Powerbook G4 using Bluetooth. Since Cingular bought AT&T, new customers would sign on with Cingular. I think they actually have an unlimited plan for $19.99. I've put that off because I need to buy a new phone when I switch over to the Cellular side.

I've surfed the net as a passenger in a car, from a Mennonite Bed and Breakfast in Lancaster, PA and pretty much anywhere you can imagine using my connection and I absolutely LOVE it.

connection speed on GPRS at about 30Kbs-50Kbs - if using an EDGE capable device, speeds of 100Kbs-300Kbs
