Celeron CPU

Nov 13, 2005 5:51AM PST

Does anyone know if the fans should turn on, and stay on all the time for a celeron M CPU? My m320 has fans that are always on. They never shut off. I thought that celeron CPU's dont get hot.. What should i do to solve this problem?

WHo said they don't get hot.

It may be hot because you haven't cleaned out the fan ducts or because the cpu is working and because it lacks speedstep unlike the pentium m.

I added thermal paste, cleaned all vents, and nothing is happening. The fans never shut-up, its annoying.

Does anyone know how i can find out what the temperature is in my laptop?

Celerons are partically disabled Pentium M chips and...

one of the things that gets disabled is a capacity to greatly scale down the processor and the energy it draws when it's not working at high demand (in terms of computing operations). Thus, the chip runs hotter at all times, where as P-Ms scale down their energy demands when performing less demanding tasks... that's why the fans aren't always on on P-Ms. I suspect the constant running of fans may be related to this.
