Some systems require a special cable to be connected from the CD-ROM directly to the sound card in order to work. This cable carries the analog signal from the CD directly to the sound card for processing. Newer CD-ROMs and sound cards will have a SPDIF connector, which is even better because it can handle the raw digital signal and should result in cleaner sound.
Either of these cables should be easy enough to come by, and very cheap. Someone will help me out with the exact name of them, but anyone worth wasting your time with in a Best Buy or Circuit City type store should know what you're talking about pretty quickly. There's usually one or two employees of average intelligence or above in every store, the trick is finding them.
Ive checked the connection between the speakers and puter. RealOne is supposed to automatically play a CD, according to it's help section. I opened the program myself and told it to play the cd, and it appeared to be playing except there was no sound. I checked the sound controls to find they were OK.
