CD writer shows no disc when it should

I have a Sony S250 that has XP Home on it and is the first Sony to come with XP. It has a Sony CRX 175E writer in it. I just bought Music Match to use on it and approximately the same time I am having trouble with the writer ONLY when I try to make a Photo CD. I will transfer photos from My Documents to Disc F (the writer) and they will show up there, but when I try to do the final recording to disc I get an error message that there is no disc in the unit. I have tried differant brands of discs with no result. I have a stand alone Writer and if I put a disc in it and press the Record button and then stop it without putting anything on the disc and then put in in the computer it will work. Can you help? JB

...is usually a result of the drive starting to go south..Yes, you can try a different brand of CD media...and if you have a lens cleaner, give it a shot, but on an older machine, it tends to be a drive failure issue.

Hope this helps.
