CD-RWs not recognized.

Sep 12, 2004 6:32PM PDT

My drive (ATAPI-CD ROM-DRIVE-56MAX [CD-ROM drive]) doesn't seem to recognize blank CD-RWs (FUJIFILM CD-RW). The drive playes misuc CDs, data CDs and software CDs. But when I attempt to transfer data or download data to a blank I get a message to insert a CD even though a CD is inserted.

When I go to My Computer and open Properties for the drive it shows that there is no free space.

Any help to figure out what I may be doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.

I am using a Gateway 800 PIII with Windows ME.

What software did you install to make this function?

Hint: InCD, DirectCD, etc.

Sorry Robert. Am using UDF Reader v. 1.03 provided with the Disc drive. I purchased it from Gateway who knew how I intended to use it. So I assumed it was all I needed. And since it is not a Gateway "product" no support.

I also have Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4 but it isn't working. It keeps giving me an error message "Easy CD Creator Engine Initialization Failed. Could not load ACMWrapper". Reinstall no help. It also created a startup icon that indicates that "No supported CD-R/CD-RW drive!"

Any help to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

What speed is your cdrw media? I believe anything above 4X will not work with EZCD creator 4. but a cdr should be ok above 4X though.

I just read the your post again and I think I screw up. You are trying to read a cdrw disk with a cdr drive. Since it doesn't work, it may never be able to read cdrw media. Maybe you should get a cdrw writer; they are very affordable now.

THAT doesn't work on XP from my memory.

From my trials, you need the latest DirectCD to use those CDRWs proper.

I can read, but not write (yep) with a CDROM...

But UDF (read) support has been added with the software from Roxio... A CDR drive, in good working order should be able to read a 1 to 4X CDRW if made with the same UDF software.
