Cd-rw Problems, Can't Save in Word

Apr 24, 2005 1:24AM PDT

Hi
I just recently did a fresh install of Windows xp. I do work related documents in Microsoft word and save these to a cd-rw so they can be updated as needed. I would use the save as feature and it always worked. Since I have re-installed, I can no longer do this. When I try to save from word to a cd it says invalid function and something about my not having access or premission for this folder. I am logged on as computer administrator though. Wordpad, paint, etc will let me save to the cd-rw, the only thing I have found that won't work is Word and that is the only program I really need to work. Any suggestions would be appreciated because I am at a loss. I took Microsoft Office off and re-installed it without any success.

May not work. Here's why.

Most to the time one would use Nero's InCD or Roxio's DirectCD. XP's native CDRW as a disk drive is flighty and I offer no fix.

I'm kind of at a loss with that one too Bob, but here goes. A few questions (that may or may not make any difference, but we'll see) Have you done all of the windows xp updates, including the highmat support for cd writing? Have you done all of the updates for your version of Microsoft Office? Although Bob couldn't be more right about xp's native cdrw capabilities being flighty at best, there were some improvements(if you could call them that) in some of the windows xp updates. The best thing to do would be to invest in one of the programs Bob mentioned earlier, Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 with Direct CD, or Nero with InCD. These programs function much much better than you'll get with xp's native cd writing.
