Here is a suggestion.
Open your computer. Disconnect the drive. Remove all of your CDRW software and NERO, etc... Delete the 98 driver as well.
Use any tool(i.e. NORTON Cleansweep) that will get rid of the extraneous files left behind and you might check the websit for your CDRW and see if they give any other instructions for removing all files.
RE-Boot, make sure all is gone. Turn system off and then re-connect the CDRW. XP should see it and re-install and fix the problem. Get the most updated drivers from the manufacturers website as well.
Good Luck

Hello,
I have an HP Pavillion 8655c (pentium 3 533) with an LG CED 8083B cd rw drive. I recently upgraded the os to windows xp professional and ever since the cd rw drive will read but will not write (will not copy data from the xp wizard or anything else). The original cd burner program came installed with windows 98. I'm trying to copy data to a memorex ultra speed (24x) cd. Says it doen't recognize the format. I even installed Nero hoping that it would work. Nada. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan
