CD-RW not listed in BIOS

Apr 2, 2004 1:59AM PST

Mobo name Gigabyte GA-71X (about 4 yrs old), Hi-Val 12x-10x-32x CD-RW, Windows 98 SE

Why doesn't my CD-RW show up in BIOS?

Normal setup, one HDD set as master on Primary IDE and the CD-RW set as master on Secondary IDE.

BIOS only lists the HDD and shows None for master and slave on Secondary IDE.

The CD-RW works, shows up at post and in Explorer

Rosalie, if this is a new unit, you might have it set as
slave on the back. If it's been showing up before, you might go to-My computer-properties-remove cdrw-then reboot. It will then reload. Like Cowboy said, if it works right, it doesn't matter. chuck

It's a fairly new unit and it is set as master on the back.

To tell you the truth I didn't even look to see if it showed up in BIOS after I installed it. I know the CD-ROM I had in there before did. Apparently nothing I do makes the CD-RW show up. So long as it doesn't matter than I won't worry about it. It does work, is recognized in the mobo posting and in Windows Explorer.

The mobo is about four years old, maybe it doesn't know what a CD-RW is. :^O

Thanks chuck.
