CD-RW Drive Compatibility

Oct 7, 2006 4:58AM PDT

I presently have a Sony CD-RW CRX215E5 drive in my Compaq Presario S6010V desktop. It is not functioning properly. I want to install an I/O Magic 52x24x52 CD-RW drive in the empty drive position.

How do I determine whether the I/O drive is compatible with my computer?

Will it operate independently of the Sony drive?

If the Sony drive is defective, do I need to remove it?

I see that there is an I/O 52x32x52 drive available for the same price. I s there any reason why I shouldn't buy the faster drive?

I never leave a malfunctioning drive in the machine. I replace it. Pretty easy, just follow the instructions with the new drive.

Better than 99.99% of drives will be compatible and just plug right in.

Why not opt for a DVD recorder? I paid 35 bucks for the last one.
