CD-RW drive cant play Audio Cd's

Sep 4, 2004 6:54PM PDT

Hello

I have a Fujitsu E-7010 which has a CD-RW drive bay, Its been 2 days which my drive cant play audio cd's, It can read Data Cd's. I have unistalled the driver and restarted windows to install the driver,it had no effect, I have taken the CD-RW out from the bay and placed it back in again, had no effect, it was once which it could play an audio cd, so I took the cd out and placed to check if it worked again, but it didnt, and I have also placed my CD-RW in another Fujitsu Laptop E-4010, the CD-RW had the same problem found on mine.

Any help is much appreciated.

Cheers

" I have also placed my CD-RW in another Fujitsu Laptop E-4010, the CD-RW had the same problem found on mine. "

Since the problem followed the drive, it's too likely the drive is the issue. Some go into denial mode and can't be helped.

Last hurrahs before replacing the drive is a CD Lens Cleaner and setting the playback to analog mode. I will not tell you how to set it since no OS was noted. Look in the WMP MINI FAQ to see how -> http://www.nwlink.com/~zachd/pss/pss.html

Best of luck,

Bob

Dear Bob thanx for the reply,

well I changed the playback to Analog mode but it didnt solve the problem, havent got a cd lens cleaner yet, I'll give that a try also, but now my question is, is it possible for a cd drive to be able to read data and not be able to playback Audio? how can this happen and what can be the cause.

Thanx

ps: last time I replaced my cd-rw driver because it stopped working completely, and I got a new one for free, I donw know if this one has gurantee also.

Yes. We call those ZOMBIE drives. I've seen DVDROM drives that can't play DVD, but do CDs. And vice versa.

As to why, it's all to do with how the electronics or laser fails. Again, such will annoy the owner and cause much delay in getting the new drive installed and the problem resolved. Many will try any number of drivers, reloading the OS and more. Only a few items fix it. Lens cleaner, the firmware is updated saved some 2 out of 50 units so far. Far too slim to incur shop charges so we don't bother anymore. Why charge 48 people for the exercise?
