CD-RW and DVD-R Disc

Jun 26, 2010 1:31PM PDT

My problem seems to be an easy one. I have the subject discs and Vista or Windows tells me they cannot format them CD-RW 80 Min 700 mb/mo and DVD-R 4.7GB/Go 120 min. I have had them for quite some time are they opsolete?

There has to be an easy way to copy my Desktop Favorites (Vista Machine) to my new Laptop (Windows 7).

I have tried to do it with a Scandisk Cruzer. Anyone have a simple easy step by step way to get my favorites transferred?

Your first mistake

Your first mistake is thinking that CDs and DVDs need to be formatted. Granted it is a logical thought process, it just doesn't happen to apply in this case.

CD-RW vs DVD-R Disc

Well, surely not my last mistake, I hope.

When I place a disc in the machine it says I have 2 options. 1. Burn an Audio CD. 2. Burn a File to Disc. When I click on Burn File to Disc, it fires back "Windows cannot format this type of disc". Insert a Different Disc and try again"

No formatting here.

That concept was something you found in Nero, Roxio and such but in Vista? The native recorder was just too unreliable for me. I use CDBURNERXP most of the time.

I did manage to find a free NCH Software Burn program that appears to work. Right now, I did get the favorites onto a disc and now I need to figure out how to put this file into my favorites on the laptop. Slowly, thru trial and error, I may succeed. LOL Thanks for your help

Suggest you get the free version of Servant Salamander file manager.
http://www.altap.cz/salam_en/freeware.html

Rather than drag and drop, this utility opens into 2 panes.
"It is a free two-pane file manager for Windows 95, 98, ME, NT 4.0, 2000, and XP". (PS: add Vista 32 bit).
