My CD-ROM and DVD drive is not reading any disks or My Computer is not reading them. The drives are functioning properly but there not reading any CD's or DVD's. They're not coming up automatically either. Also my media player program will not open. Its like its not there. I use Windows Millenium Edition. Someone please help and dont tell me I have to replace the drives.

I have the same problem - windows explorer does not recognise cd-rom drive under Windows Millenium, but while using boot disc the cd-rom drive is mounted without problems, also (i have dual-boot system) Windows XP has no problems with any of the 2 drives.

I installed both systems about 2 weeks ago (clean install) and got all the updates from microsoft.

Does anybody knows how to make win me able to see the cd-rom and dvd-rom, please?

Nothing specific can be offered since you as well as the original missed those words in RED that you see with each post.

Do the obivous and clean the CD media and drives themselves. Then, check under the device mgr. for any red/yellow flags, they need attention. The media player won't work if the CD drives aren't accessible.

De-install any CD "drivers", reboot and see if the CD drives are noted. if they are, install any drivers and/or s/w that came with them. Reload the mtrbd. buss or bridge drivers, don't take anything for granted, just do it.

Have you tried any malware scanners? Run them to check results, and proceed accordingly. Do you use different s/w for the CD and DVD drives. Try removing one(disconnect) and then use the remaining one. If that don't work, de-install entirely whatever CD drive(s) s/w installed, any kind. Shutdown, disconnect, then reboot, allow to finish. Check the device mgr. for any CD drives(should be none). Exit, and reboot into "safe mode", then check the device mgr. for CD listing,(should be none), OK, then exit out and reboot, allow to finish, once done, shutdown. Now add, one CD drive(ONE!) make it master or CS connect, power-UP and check results. Install any s/w required, does it work afterwards. If not, you have a bad drive, mtrbd. buss, or severe OS glitch. I suggest then to save any data possible, then reload the whole system from scratch, wipe out(refornmat, etc) and load the OS, all drivers, updates, etc. sorry....
