CD Rom

My CD drive - 52X and CD Rom R/RW 24X10 will play music cd's but will not allow me to install software, keeps telling me to put in a cd.
They both used to work just fine. The only thing I've done lately is have a new processor installed.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Try this. One CD or CDRW drive at a time. Sometimes we get a failed drive and they don't work together.

Also, an error message would be helpful.

"It doesn't work" doesn't help here. Gritty details such as I put the Office CD into the drive, the setup started and then it spit out the CD.

I put in Office2003 cd. The light comes on the cd drive like it is going to work. The error message box appears on the screen telling me to insert a CD into the drive. I opened/closed the drive, get the same message.
I tried the other drive; the CR R/RW, the drive open/closes, although not all the way open - two times, then just stays closed. No error message with that drive.
I did try to install a different piece of software thinking the Office CD may be bad, I had the same results with the second try.
Put a music CD in, works just fine.

How did the test go?

In reply to: Re: CD Rom

Install just one CD or CDRW drive at a time.

Not sure I am following you. I tried the Office CD in each, one at a time, even re-booted before trying the other drive.
Neither drive seems to recognized that there is a Cd there.

Let me rewrite how I would test the drives. I would install just one CD or CDRW drive at a time on the IDE cable with each drive taking the MASTER setting. ONLY ONE drive at a time to see if one drive works or the other doesn't. If hardware testing is not an option, seek help.
