General discussion

CD quality via file formats

May 8, 2008 1:40AM PDT

I have a 160gb ipod classic which I link to my amp/speakers in the house and link via a aux port in my car (no more crappy FM transmitter required!).
I converted my cd?s to mp3 format 192kbps sometime ago. But I am noticing a difference in sound quality when switching been original CD and the mp3 format, especially when in the car.

What KBPS rating is cd-quality?
What is the best file format (extension) to convert the music to?

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

but the compression tech is obviously out dated
and technically MP3 is also probably the worse of the formats used now

CD quality would be lossless formats though lossy often suffices for most people
