CD Problem

by no comprehendo / December 23, 2010 11:27 PM PST

I am trying to install software onto my computer and when I insert the cd into the DVD drive nothing happens automatically so I click start, then click run. In the open box I type J;SETUP and then OK. It says to insert CD. I already have CD loaded. What is the problem? Thanks for any and all help.

Go into My Computer or Windows Explorer, find the CD in the left pane, open it (click), find the setup.exe in the right pane and doubleclick to run it. What happens?

Go into Device Manager and see if there's any exclamation mark with the drive. If not, replace the drive (buy another one).
Also, of course, see if Symantec blocks it. The easy way for that: try to boot from a bootable CD.

While it sounds like the old failed drive symptom.

Be sure to try:

1. Unplugging that USB HDD, reboot and try again.
2. Researching VISTA CODE 39 and do not write back that it does not apply. I use that fix for this issue beyond the usual CODE 39 and it sometimes helps.

Good luck,
Bob

Given that security suite is it possible it is blocking use of the CD? (ask Symantec.)

If you look at the drive under Windows Explorer...

can you see the files on the CD/DVD drive like AUTORUN.INF, AUTORUN.EXE or SETUP ?

VAPCMD

PS....That would be "J:\SETUP.EXE" note the colon ...can't use semi-colon.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
