CD player in vintage car

Jun 7, 2009 3:04AM PDT

I want to be able to play CDs in my 1959 T-Bird. I want to keep the original am radio in the dash and somehow hook up a CD player (single play or multi-disk)in the car using my car speaker system and that will operate off my 12-volt car electrical system. I think that a portable CD player concealed in the car (glove box maybe ?) will work for me. Any suggestions will be appreciated

Solutions for your T-Bird

A suggestion would be to use Kenwood's Car Portal. It is a stand-alone system with its own AM/FM tuner and amplifier but it has front, rear and sub out if you want to add your own amps. It acts like a "connection point" for other Kenwood accessories, and you can pick whatever you want from Satellite Radio, Garmin-based navigation, HD Radio, CD Changer, iPod and more. It can operate from remote control or their touch-screen controller. You could mount your screen underdash or leave it cabled and tuck it away when not in use.

This will allow you to have a completely modern and versatile audio system and keep your factory radio in the dash. You can find them on our website (www.al-eds.com) or get info on Kenwood's website (www.kenwoodusa.com). Alpine has a similar product, but I think this one's a little better for your needs.
