Make, model, connection to the PC.
I have a Plextor external cd deck but all it will do is play music. Is there software for using it to load data and programs into my computer? It is now using Roxio for the music.
Thanks, Duane

Since XP's USB support is only USB 1.x I don't expect this to work very well.
I can only guess you really have something newer and that the CD drive letter is missing.
Look around in the Device Manager for the CD/DVD drive and see if it notes some CODE 15, 21, 39, or other for that drive.

I'm guessing here that it can't read DATA CDs?
That's fairly common with old drives, be sure to use XP SP3 (an updated XP) and test the drive on another PC.
BE SURE that your software CDs are "CD"'s and not DVDs. Why? Many of the new apps arrive on DVD and this drive can't read such.

Test it on another PC to see if it still works. It's far beyond the usual 2 to 5 years I expect these to work.
