cd-dvd error code 10?

I have a dell inspiron 1520 with vista home premium that I noticed a few months ago is unable to play cd's and dvd's due to "error code 10". It makes the sound like it is going to start but then stops and I keep seeing different ways to fix it when I google it.

I woudl REALLY appreciate the help.

Was searching for answer to above problem. Rather a beginner at these things, so was worried about messing around with things I know nothing about. Then came across your advice on the forum. Took bull by horns and it was Fantastic! Clear and easy instructions enabled first attempt success. Thanks very much, we are so pleased to have our cd/dvd drive back. Is possible we also fell foul of Apple I Tunes.
