CD/DVD Auto Run XP Pro

by FarNorth / March 30, 2004 7:22 AM PST

Operating System Is XP Pro--I have both DVD & CD Units in my computer. Neither devices will play when I insert a disk. I have to open the CD/DVD with the "START-RUN-BROWSE-EXE." to run the programs. I have been unable to find the AUTO RUN feature of this program

That happened to me and none of the fixes I found here or through other sites worked. The only way I got the autorun feature activated was to uninstall the DVD/CD drive from the device manager and reboot the computer. Once the drive was reinstalled by Windows, the autorun worked just fine.

It does no harm to let Windows XP re-acquire the DVD and CD drives. Of course, you have to be logged on with Administrator rights to be able to fool with the hardware. After you've removed both drives from System Properties, Hardware tab, Device Manager, reboot. Then open My Computer, right-click the DVD or CD drive (do both in turn) choose Properties, AutoPlay tab, and set your autoplay preferences there.
