Dec 14, 2012 5:06AM PST

Hi,
I need a easy to use CD DVD Burner that's basically is automatic. Every time I burn a CD or DVD it will only play on my computer, not on anything else! What am I doing wrong? Where can I learn how too?
I use XP and a Dell Inspirion. Help please.
Thanks

When you say ...

"it will only play on my computer, not on anything else!" do you mean that it will not play on other computers or that it will not play on CD or DVD players?

Often that depends on the TYPE of CD or DVD you are writing to (for instance many if not most CD Players will not play CD-RW disks) as well as the capabilities of the player.

If you are not FINALIZING a CD it will not play on many readers.

If you are using packet writing software the disk will seldom play on a reader and often will not be viewable on any other computer lacking the same packet writing software.

Tell us more DETAILS such as the software you are using and the exact process you are performing to write the disks so we have a better chance of telling you what you are doing wrong.

Re: burned CD or DVD will not play

That strongly depends on what exactly is on the CD or DVD and how exactly your burned it.

For example, a Windows install DVD won't play on a DVD-player. In fact, very few things will play on a standard CD- or DVD-player, so you've got to burn exactly the right things in exactly the right way.

So please tell the details.

So please tell the details (apart for cd and dvd) about the source (what do you want to put on it) and the destination (where do you want to play those disks). And tell how you did it now.
You don't need to be an expert to tell that, do you?

OK,
I downloaded a video from you tube and tried to copy it to a CD and DVD. I used CDBURNERXP.
I moved the file into CDBURNERXP and tried to copy it to a DVD.
Is there a process that allows it to play on any cd player or dvd? What are the steps etc.

Re: video from youtube

A video won't play on cd-player, that's for sure. Youtube video's are flash-files. Flash-files can't be run on a DVD-player either.

The usual program to write DVD's that can be played on a standard player is DVD FLICK from http://www.dvdflick.net/. It support 45 video formats as input, but I didn't check if flash is one of them. However, since the Youtube TOS explicitely forbids copying the contents (it only allows viewing by streaming it on a PC or laptop or tablet or such) it's against the forum policies to discuss how to do that.

That's why I'm locking this thread.
