CD drive will only read a CD when using ITUNES

My sytem is XP Pro with all of the updates

Since I installed Itunes 2 years ago, my CD drive will only see CDs if I am using ITUNES--then it works fine. For everything else, when you put a CD in and close the CD, the drive spins the CD, and the green light comes on normally, but when you go to MY Computer and select the drive, the menu is empty. Any ideas?? I haven't needed my CD until now, but now I need to install a new printer.

I suggest you go with what works.

While I have an idea it would break iTunes so my advice is to go with what works.
