I found the best way to solve this problem is to uninstall the CD drive from the device manager and reboot.

Glad to read you got the problem solved. Here is something I found that might help if this problem happens again:

"AutoPlay is a new feature introduced in WinXP used for detecting content such as pictures, music, or video files on removable media and removable devices. AutoPlay automatically launches applications to play or display said content.

AutoPlay should not be confused with AutoRun.

AutoRun, introduced in Win95, enables a Compact Disc (CD) to automatically launch a function, such as an installer or game play, when placed in the CD-ROM drive. This is accomplished through the use of an Autorun.inf file in the root directory of the Compact Disc (CD)."

1. The fuctions available for "AutoPlay" (Click to see an example screenshot) when inserting a CD or DVD are pictures, music files, video, and mixed content which can be set for automatically, display a prompt to choose an action, or to take no action at all when a specific file type is encountered . If the options appear correctly set, see if running the Microsoft "Autoplay Repair Wizard AutoFix.Exe" will fix the problem.

2. Suggested reading, "Using and Configuring AutoPlay."

well, i tried almost ALL the methods i could find on any forum but nothing worked.
finally, i came across "Microsoft Autoplay Repair Wizard" which automatically changes registry settings, that gpedit stuff and whatever to make Autoplay work again.
so, if the Autoplay feature has suddenly stopped working for your cd/dvd drives, pen drives etc., look no further than this free tool. believe me, nothing worked but this tool.
so here are the download links:-
