Question

CCleaner finds stuff I don't use

Apr 14, 2017 6:15PM PDT

I'm very pleased with CCleaner. When I use if on Windows 7 (old faithful) with IE and Windows 10 that has Edge, CCleaner finds history and other items due to IE and Edge, which I don't use, as I use Firefox. Out of curiosity, does anyone anyone know why this happens? Does IE or Edge run in the background even though I don't open them? It's not a problem, but certainly a wonder as to why these programs seem to run. Thanks.

ie and edge is used by windows for some temporary files. in addition some software especially those from microsoft will use it to call home. I remember years ago when users had problems copying and pasting, the first fix suggestion would be to delete the files in the temporary internet folder (part of ie). It usually help. One other possibility, even though you don't use it, it is still a part of the windows update process.

I see the same with w7 and IE,FF.

It looks like at least part of this is IE has some default stuff which ccleaner removes.

Reboot and the default stuff is back.
