Resolved Question

Catching and Shadowing

Oct 5, 2012 10:27PM PDT

Every time my Windows XP computer crashes, the blue screen says "disable bios memory options such as catching or shadowing." Can someone tell me how to eliminate catching and shadowing? Thanks.

I don't think it's "catching". I think it's "caching".

Anyway, that isn't a Windows XP thing. It's a BIOS thing. So press the magic key at boot to go into the BIOS setup and see if you can find that options.

What the magic key is depends on the BIOS. Could be escape or del or F2 or F10 or another, even a combination. It should be mentioned in the user documentation, on the screen or in the manufacturers help pages for your model. If you really can't find it, post maker and model here to see if anybody knows.

If this will help, my BIOS data are: Intel IDG451OH.56A.0077.2008.0725.1734 7/25/2008. Thanks.

I meant make and model of the PC, for example: desktop HP 23-1000Z.

Got Into Bios
Oct 6, 2012 10:21PM PDT

Got into BIOs with F2. Once there I found MAIN - ADVANCED - SECURITY - POWER - BOOT - EXIT. Nowhere in any of those could I find anything that said caching or shadowing. Oh what to do? Thanks.

What I do.

Is to get in there and do the cleaning. It appears some never do that and then fall into some trap where they think a bios setting will cure it.
