Unless we sent the drives in every other year to be refurbed they started to do things like that. Has the drive ever been "to the shop?"
Call the drive maker and ask what to do. Most likely they'll tell you to try a cleaning tape first.

I am running BE 8.6 on W2K and haven't had much to worry about 'til now. I have some backups from November that I need to access, however, in order to do that, I need to catalog the tapes. When I try to, I am given the error below:

I took a look at the eventlog and found this:
Event ID:7
The Device, \Device\Tape3, has a bad block.
I'm not sure what do make of it. I have a total of 4 drives between two ATL libraries and all 4 say the same thing. I have gone so far as to attempt cataloging the month prior with the same affect. Let me know if you need more info to help out. Thanks in advance.
