Cat too scary for Canadian mail carriers

May 7, 2007 10:57PM PDT

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (Reuters) -- Canada's postal system has stopped delivering mail to a home in Winnipeg, Manitoba, after a mail carrier was scared away by a "very threatening cat," the Winnipeg Free Press said Friday.

A Canada Post spokeswoman said the agency was concerned about the safety of its carriers, although it hoped for an amicable solution to its dispute with cat-owner John Samborski.

"The letter carrier who delivers mail there ... was brought up on a farm, she is very comfortable with animals," spokeswoman Kathi Neal told the newspaper. "Apparently this is a very threatening cat."

Samborski told the paper that his 8-year-old, declawed, black cat Shadow is docile, and it was "ridiculous" for Canada Post to make him to pick up his mail from a post office instead of delivering it to his door.

maybe carrier should use a dog to deliverHappy

After she went to the hospital

had rabies shots and probably delivered by someone else for a couple of days.

I don't think rabies shots are a "good thing"

I've seen signs....

.... on some houses saying, "Beware of attack cat ! " Happy

When I was a kid we inherited an older cat from neighbors who were moving away. A female Persian named Butch.

She had a lot of scars, but ruled the streets. She could lick any dog in town !

She grew to be very old. One day she walked up to my mother and rubbed her head against her legs. Now, Butch wasn't the most affectionate of cats. After being petted, she wanted out. That was the last time she was ever seen. We like to think she came to say "Good-bye".

Probation for brandishing a loaded reptile

SUNBURY, Pa. - A woman accused of holding police at bay by brandishing poisonous snakes was sentenced to house arrest and probation.

?I just wasn?t in the right frame of mind that night,? said Terry Jackson, 36, at her sentencing Monday.

Officers were trying to prevent the despondent woman from harming herself with a hunting knife when the confrontation took place Oct. 25, police said.

Jackson picked up two western diamondback rattlesnakes, a pigmy rattlesnake and two copperheads to try to keep police from taking her into custody, authorities said.

I saw a house where they had a fenced in area of the yard and with a full grown Mountain Lion chained there. I'm sure it wasn't legal. Imagine being THEIR mail carrier!

I'd be more concerned about the owner's state of mind.

considering that he had the animal declawed, then placed it out of doors to fend for itself.
