Casio Z850 vs Z1000 vs new Z700?

by hrh13 / September 8, 2006 12:53 PM PDT

i can't tell anything the new Z700 has that the Z850 doesn't, other than maybe about $50 cheaper. Why would they bring out the Z700?

and does anyone like the Z1000? Should it be considered?

the only negative i've seen about the 850 is poor image quality in HQ mode, but apparently a firmware upgrade issued out in August fixes that.

I'm about to buy a new camera, and i like the size and features of the Casios. Any thoughts/recommendations would be appreciated.

(and i guess while i am on the topic, i should ask about the superslim card models versus the Z models)

Here is a look at the specifications side-by-side:

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=casio_exz700%2Ccasio_exz850%2Ccasio_exz1000&show=all

While the specs look alike, there are a few differenced:

The Z700 does not have manual controls, the other two do.

The real differences is in the photo results.

Looking at sample photos of the same subject, here is what I see.

The Z850 produces the sharpest images.
The Z600 image is soft. (Same lens is on the Z700)
The Z1000 image is very soft.

Here are reviews of the cameras....I have to substitute the Z600 review for the Z700 review since the Z700 has not been reviewed yet:
