Sickening that the killer has three daughters of his own Sad

I wanted to post this as a bit of a PSA.

I don't know how many have seen the video of this girl being abducted, but this is what struck me. All the experts in this field will tell you that regardless of the threat to get you to go with them, NEVER let the person take you to a "secondary site" -- your chances of survival are next to nil. He grabbed her by the wrist but while clearly going against her will, I didn't see much of a struggle. Teach your kids and all adults should know -- fight like hell to get away! Chances are if you cause a commotion, the predator will move on to a more cooperative victim.

May she rest in peace.

That's incredibly sad. I pray that her parents will be able to grieve without bitterness,

so that their lives are not destroyed as well. The killer should be dispatched to be judged by God.

the death penalty a fitting punishment! This "man" doesn't deserve the chance to do it again!
Persoannly I wold like to see him handed over to the parents for punishment!
My prayers to the family.

The unspoken question here, Glenda, is...
Feb 6, 2004 7:23AM PST

..."how many others died like Carlie at this man's hands?". Criminologists tell us that crimes of this nature rarely are committed in isolation. How many other girls, who are now just missing persons cases, in fact were victims of this predator?

Since he is so far unwilling to say anything, we may never know the answer to that question. This we do know: His seemingly idyllic family man life isn't any mystery; John Wayne Gacy was a model neighbor before the police began exhuming all those young boys he tortured and killed.

Agreed: This one deserves death.

Very true, Paul......

But I doubt he will ever tell how many or where the bodies are. I just hope he is never given the opportunity to prey on children again!

This case is particularly chilling because part of the abduction was caught on camera. The video quality is so good that it just makes you want to scream "RUN!!!" at this girl whose life is about to end. My heart goes out to her family.

Hi, Evie,

I heard the terrible news when I turned on the TV this morning, and my heart sank. I've thought about it all day, and of her lovely face and the terror she must have felt.

I thought back to when both my daughter and granddaughter were 11 years old, and the promise of a good life that was before them.

The grief being felt by the family must be agonizing. I pray the Lord can bring them some sense of peace.

Just a guess
Feb 6, 2004 9:22AM PST

Since he was in a work outfit and she was technically trespassing on the carwash property, he may have claimed he was taking her to the police for trespassing. However it appears he showed her something, but doesn't seem to be a gun or it was a small knife, but could have been a fake police badge and he claimed he was undercover to stop trespassers.

... like Josh ... you see that video and just want to scream RUN!!!

If he had a gun or whatever, we need to educate our kids in school to struggle and run. Instead of all these assemblies about questioning sexuality and diversity and whatever other pc crap they keep enlightening our kids with, give them the info. Might she still have sort-of gone with him? Maybe, but had she been told by a John Walsh type that she must NOT go to a secondary site, she might still be alive. Ya know I see this occasionally on the morning shows where they tell kids how to react to strangers. Why is that not part of an ongoing school safety program?

I'm not blaming the girl by any means here. I'm just saying that whatever means he used to get her to somewhat go along stood less of a chance of working if she had been made aware of them ahead of time.

I agree 100%. I used to rehearse scenarios with my daughter
Feb 7, 2004 10:29AM PST

before she ever went to school. If I could grab her and drop her on the couch, she 'lost'. I hoped she would learn the ploys and how to resist. I don't know if she did, but she sure doesn't hesitate to kick me if we are 'sparring' (I try to touch her stomach and she attacks).

Father of 3?
Feb 6, 2004 6:53PM PST

Where do you get that? I read that article again and don't see any mention of it. I haven't heard that on any other news either. Was he a biological father or one living with his children?

Sorry, didn't get that from the article, I heard it several times on FNC. From this article, I at least get a mention of kids:

Smith's Neighbors Were Surprised
Smith's neighbors, Ron and Linda Thompson, said they're shocked by Smith's arrest, but concede that the man seen on the videotape looks like him. They said he has children and is always "great" with them.

What is troubling from this more recent article, is that this man shouldn't even be out. According to discussions on Fox this morning the failed 1997 abduction for which he was acquitted, the girl got away and stumbled and fell and was helped by a group of golfers. The jury apparently bought some story this guy told then Sad Even without that, the probation officer wanted him behind bars for other reasons.
