I have a Street Pilot (Garmin) about 5 yrs old. Things have changed greatly and I have been reading. One site that has been helpful is www.gps4fun.com.
One that stands out is the Magellan 700 - it has a huge capacity drive apparently built in, like 10 gig, no loading from disc to the GPS. I have seen it in two car dealerships, and they have tried them out and rather than offer customers installed GPS, they opted to offer the biggest Magellan model. I have been disappointed in the Street Pilot, it did not tell me ahead of exits that I should have taken. On some occasions, it sent me left where it should have been a right on street level directions. The site I used above usually has good prices on whatever model you decide on, and they will talk with you on the phone and give the specifics and help if needed,
Good Luck
I am looking to get a handheld GPS and the lowest price is not necessarily for the same item. I investigated it further and found out that they were selling an older software version and fewer additional items were included in the package. Make sure you are comparing apples to apples and do not always jump on the lowest price without checking it out further as to what is the exact item and what is included in the box. This is true even though CNET has given them their highest rating of 5 stars.
